Bullwhip Kelp *Dried* (Nereocystis luetkeana)

from $7.00

Bullwhip Kelp, one of the most mineral-rich brown seaweeds, has been shown to contain a remarkable spectrum of nutrients and bioactive compounds. With a super salty taste, it’s particularly high in potassium salts and around 40% total mineral content. Though iodine content of individual Bullwhip Kelp samples is highly variable—depending on ocean conditions, season, and other factors—sometimes I notice a strong iodine smell coming off the kelp. Personally, after eating it, I notice a subtle boost in energy that I associate with thyroid stimulation. Among its diverse compounds that help reduce oxidative stress in the body, Bullwhip Kelp contains highly antioxidant phenolic compounds called phlorotannins, characteristic of brown seaweeds. These compounds have been shown to help reduce oxidative cellular damage, with additional neuroprotective and antiviral activity.
