Preparing for Seaweed Harvest: From the Intertidal to Your Pantry (Zoom: Sunday, May 3, 2026)

$50.00

Preparing for Seaweed Harvest: From the Intertidal to Your Pantry

2-Hour Pre-Field Zoom

Available to students enrolled in the May 17 Field Excursion only.

Sunday, May 3 | 3:00-5:00 PM (Zoom)

This online session supports preparation for harvest and establishing a home drying practice.

Topics include:

  • Harvest preparation (licenses, species expectations, planning)

  • Transporting and rinsing seaweeds

  • Drying fundamentals and setup options

  • Individualized guidance on home drying setups for your specific situation

  • Testing for dryness, quality control, and storage

  • Alternatives to drying

  • Site selection and environmental considerations

My general seaweed drying guidelines are available here. We will touch briefly on drying in the field class, but many aspects of the drying process are difficult to demonstrate in that setting. This session explores those nuances in more depth.

Because we’ll have limited time to cover drying in the field, and your setup needs to be prepared in advance, this session is strongly recommended.

A recording will be available for those unable to attend live.

Register for the May 17 Seaweed Field Excursion: Harvesting & Home Processing here (required).
